Eikon Sports athletes continued their strong 2022 showings this past month, both domestically and internationally.

Wesley Timoteo

One of the biggest surprises of the 2022 Canadian Premier League season thus far has been the breakout performances of Eikon Sports athlete Wesley Timoteo, who plays for FC Edmonton. Timoteo began his journey with Edmonton as a trialist, and after making the squad, has been one of their leading lights in the CanPL. In just 10 starts and 4 substitute appearances for the Eddies, Timoteo has 2 goals and 5 assists, leading the league in the latter. In June, he snagged 1 goal and 2 assists in just 4 matches, playing a key role in Edmonton’s improved performances. Timoteo is exactly the type of player this league was made for and his creativity from the flanks has been a huge benefit for Alan Koch’s team.

Moses Dyer & William Akio

Ah yes, the dynamic duo. Moses Dyer and William Akio continue to be the offensive leaders for Valour FC, and both played a role for the club in June, as they look to chase the top 4. Akio in particular got back to his brilliant best, being involved in 3 goals including a fantastic winner against Forge away – a huge win for Valour. Dyer was on the scoresheet in June as well, scoring an excellent header against York United in yet another Valour away win in Ontario. Even though he has reverted back to being more of a midfielder, Dyer is still showing some of the qualities we saw during his time as a centre-forward.

Matteo De Brienne

While Akio and Dyer are the main men for Phillip Dos Santos’ Valour FC, another Winnipeg-based Eikon athlete Matteo De Brienne is an up-and-comer that has made the most of his role as a squad player. De Brienne is noted for his versatility, and is an extremely useful player to bring off of the bench. We saw exactly that during Valour’s 4-2 loss to Cavalry at home in June, when the Ottawa native came off the bench and finished a chance superbly past Marco Carducci near the end of the match. De Brienne still has a role to play with Valour this season, especially with his pace and versatility off the bench.

Akeem Garcia

The CanPL stalwart himself, Akeem Garcia, continued his hard-working performances for HFX Wanderers in June. Anyone who has watched the CanPL for at least a couple of years already knows the damage that the Trinbagonian can cause in transition and from the penalty spot. He did the latter in June, when he scored the winner against struggling York United to give HFX their usual victory at home.

Jeannot Esua & Zachary Sukunda

Over to Finland we go, where two former CanPL players are playing solid football for 2nd division side PEPO. Jeannot Esua picked up his first goal contribution for the club in June, providing an assist from his usual position at right-back. Zachary Sukunda on the other hand has been playing in midfield and even left-wing more recently, and he continues to be one of the first names on the teamsheet for PEPO. Both players played in all 4 matches in June as PEPO try and push out of the bottom few places.

Yann Fillion

Lastly, Yann Fillion made his first start for his new club IFK Mariehamn in the Finnish 1st division. After 9 matches on the bench, the 26-year-old from Ottawa was between the sticks in Mariehamn’s massive win over HJK Helsinki which is a huge boost for the club in the relegation battle. Fillion’s form heading into June is a great sign for his main goal of becoming the #1 goalkeeper for his club.
