Yann Fillion signs with newly promoted AC Oulu of the Veikkausliiga
Yann Fillion is building himself quite the career outside of North America and is yet to reach his prime. At just 24 years old, Fillion has 41 career starts in Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and Finland. Coming off the best season of his career with Ekenas IF of the Ykkonen in Finland, newly promoted side AC Oulu recognized Fillion as one of the top goalkeepers in the league. Singing a 2 year contract to play in the Veikkausliiga, Fillion looks to build on his success and help AC Oulu reach European competition next season.
With the amount of European destinations Fillion has visited at his young age, he also has had some stops in Canada. Beginning is pro career in the USL Championship with FC Montreal, Fillion was scouted by FC Zurich of the Swiss Super League. During his time under contract with Zurich, Fillion had loan spills with Umea FC in Sweden, Nest-Sotra in Norway, FC Aarau in Switzerland and TFC II back in his home province.
For the 2020 season, Fillion made the move to Ekenas IF in the Finnish Ykkonen and found success. He finished the season with the second highest Instat rating amongst goalkeepers with a 220 rating. Numbers that stood out in the league were his 71 shot save %, 27 super saves and a 0.85 xG per goal conceded, which ranked him 3rd amongst goalkeepers with 1000 minutes played. Winning the league and earning promotion, AC Oulu looks to bolster their back end in order to compete for the newly formed UEFA Europa Conference League.
